DVD+R / DVD-R Quality Tests
All DVDs have
been burned at 4x speed on an external Liteon 1633SX USB burner.
Testing software is K-Probe 2, reading speed is 4x maximum. Wider
images refer to the standard Liteon BSOS firmware, while taller images
refer to burns performed with the updated 1653 CS0K firmware patched by
CodeKing (see CDFreaks.com's Liteon forums for reference).
Prodye DVD+R 4x

Samsung PleoMax 8x DVD+R

Philips 8x DVD-R

TDK 8x DVD+R

Verbatim 4x DVD+R

Liteon 8x DVD+R

Sony 4x DVD+R

That's Write 4x DVD-R

Moving to
CS0K, PI increases a lot, more than 3 times, but it is still quite
good, while the more important PIF decreases by one-third.
Verbatim TY 8x DVD+R

Moving to
CS0K firmware does not improve the strange C1 peak at the beginning of
the scan, actually it's a bit worse (note: the EEPROM was reset after
the firmware flash, so that SMART Burn started gathering statistics
anew)
Verbatim TY 8x DVD+R (burn speed:
8x)

Burning a 8x removes the C1 peak at the beginning, so the PI statistics
are much better. PIF is very very similar to the 4x burn's one, so it
seems like Taiyo Yuden DVD+R should be burned at 8x on the Liteon.
