It's no
secret that I really like the Expedit library: in fact, I have two of
the larger ones in my living room.
I have been
playing with some possible modifications to the Expedit design. As a
picture is worth a thousand words, here is my proposal:
Simply by
moving the vertical shelves, and modifying both the position and the
height of the vertical separators, the library acquires a different and
dynamic shape. Actually, as the reference Expedit design greatly
represents the perfection of regularity, I feel that my
proposal expresses the imperfection of movement and changing, a sort of
yin and yang of the same basic concept (maybe it would be cool to have
both versions in the opposite sides of a room to represent both poles).
Besides, the different sizes of the shelves would naturally lead to
different content across the library, further enhancing the visual
appearance of movement.
The changes to the materials needed to build such a library look quite
small, as different mounting holes and three, or four, different sets
of vertical separators are all it takes to build it, so in my opinion
the price delta versus the Expedit library should remain reasonable.
